FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Eid-el-Fitr

‎The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, signalling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.


‎The announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.


‎According to the statement, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan.


‎He urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice emphasised during the fasting period.


‎The minister also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for the nation’s continued peace, unity, and prosperity.


‎While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, he encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.


‎The statement further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
