Expert: FG Tax Reform Will Prevent Terrorism Financing, Money Laundering

A financial expert, Dr Osirim Monday has stated that the Federal Government Tax Reform will improve revenue generation, simplify compliance procedures, prevent terrorism financing and money laundering.

Dr Osirim made the assertion in his paper titled “Federal Government Tax Reform: Implications for Nigerian Army Operations”, at the 2025 3rd edition of the 6 Division finance training week, held at the Nigerian Army Barracks, Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

He noted that the Nigerian tax reforms aims at overhauling the Nigerian tax landscape to drive economic growth.

Osirim however, expressed the belief that at the end of the program participants should acquit themselves with the current federal government reforms as it affects the Nigerian Army financial resource management, and others.

It was observed that the theme of the training was “Digital Finance Innovation: Building Competent 6 Division Finance Personnel for Smart Financial Management of Nigerian Army Financial Resources”.

Earlier in his address, Chief of Account and Budget (Army) Maj. Gen. Ade Fayemiwo explained that the theme centred on topics that would equip Nigerian Army Finance Corps personnel serving in 6 Division with requisite skills to provide effective services to units and formations as well as Nigerian Army personnel within the Division’s area of responsibility.

Fayemiwo represented by Major General Monday Ihanuwaze, Commandant in charge of Nigerian Army School of Finance and Account, said the training is one of the pillars of the Chief of Army Staff Command Philosophy which focused on “‘a Well-Motivated and Combat Ready Force that can Effectively Discharge its Constitutional Responsibilities at all times”.

Fayemiwo stated that the ‘Division Finance Training Week’ was designed to address the training needs of Finance officers and soldiers at the division level.

This he said “provides a good platform for updating personnel on contemporary government financial policies, financial best practices and their implications on accounting for Nigerian Army funds”.

Also, in his opening address, the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Emekah said despite challenges, said the Army has contributed efficiently to the success presently experiencing in the crude oil production.

Emekah who is also the Land Component Command Operation Delta Safe, said through resilience, professionalism, and commitment, officers of the command have continued to deliver on their mandate in curbing oil theft and safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure in Niger Delta region.

The GOC said deliberate and coordinated efforts of the officers have directly contributed to the steady rise in crude oil production.

According to him, through the coordinated efforts, the oil production “has impressively increased from 1.2 million barrels per day to 1.85 million barrels per day in July 2025, the highest figure recorded in over a decade”.

He said “this achievement is not only a testament to our resolve but also to the synergy of all components, including the finance department, in sustaining operational effectiveness”.

He commended the officers and men of the 6 Division Finance Department, saying “You have remained steadfast, diligent, and professional in discharging your duties, often without prompting”.

Emekah stated that the training is significant as it consolidated earlier programmes conducted this year in the division, including computer training and refresher courses on Nigerian Army financial policies.
