Rally in support of Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari got a boost on Friday as a group of octogenarians, Southwest Veterans and Concerned Patriotic Elders’ (SouthWest-V and PE), on Friday held a rally in support successes against terrorism and insurgency.

The rally which started from Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos ended at Lagos Government House with scores of elderly Nigerians paying glowing tributes to the Nigerian Army and its leadership.

Addressing the newsmen in Ikeja, the National President of SouthWest-V and PE, Elder Johnson Adebayo, said Buhari had conquered terrorism “like Moses did in the Bible”.

According to him, the President has liberated several communities held by the insurgents in the same manner the Biblical Moses liberated the Israelites from their Egyptian captors.

“We have seen a repeat of Moses’ leadership of the Israelites in their most difficult times reflected in the present leadership of our cherished country Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“He has played the role of the Chief armour bearer of the defeat of the enemies of Nigeria, as directed by God.

“The idea of this elaborate thousand-man rally march from us, Nigerians of septuagenarian and octogenarian ages is to drum support for President Buhari’s rewarding leadership.

“It is also our token of open appreciation of the Nigerian military for their courageous demystification of the formerly deified Boko Haram insurgents,” Adebayo said.

The octogenarian also thanked Buhari for the various reforms introduced, saying they had reduced corruption in the public service to the barest minimum.

“It has erased the bottlenecks strewn on the path of elderly citizens of this great nation in accessing their retirement entitlements.

“Our President is leading Nigeria on a progressive path in many ways. Some of us are proud beneficiaries of his welfare schemes like the Conditional Cash Transfers to the elderly and less privileged Nigerians under his Social Investment Programme.

“The school feeding programme for our children in primary schools across the federation is another unquantifiable assistance to the elderly.

” This has has lifted the burden of searching our pockets and bags every morning to find feeding money for our school children,” he said.

According to him, the group cannot overlook President Buhari’s resuscitation of collapsed infrastructure in the country.

“The railway is back; our refineries are back; textile and automobile industries are brimming with life now.

“Youths are being empowered through N-Power jobs, and dilapidated roads we never dreamt of seeing their rehabilitation in our lifetime have come to reality.

“We travel on it, but our old and tired bones do not get cracking with ache.”

He also commended the Service Chiefs for their splendid day to day leadership of the military, resulting in the spectacular job of defeating Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

2019: Why local government financial autonomy is realisable – APC

Published

APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State has insisted that local government financial autonomy proposed in the manifesto of its governorship candidate, Obong Nsima Ekere is realistic.

This was in reaction to the controversy and criticism by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that granting an autonomy to local government councils is an illusion “unless there would be constitutional amendment.”

The Spokesperson of the APC governorship campaign Organisation in Akwa Ibom, Honourable. Eseme Eyibo addressing journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, said anybody disputing the reality of financial autonomy of the local government does not have full grasp of philosophy of governance.

Hon Eyiboh, described the PDP’s position as an attempt to discredit the new vision of development being propounded by the APC governorship candidate.

According to him, “A lot of people in the Peoples Democratic party and some other people have argued that enforcement of local government autonomy is not possible unless there is constitutional amendment.

“They are clearly trying to discredit our principal, Obong Nsima Ekere, who is going to introduce rural development.”

He argued that making local governments the focal point of constitutional democracy as Ekere has promised was possible but required courage, understanding and appreciation of the requirements of the law and that it also required a man who has the capacity to differentiate between politics and governance.

“What our principal is saying is that because of his pedigree in public service career, he has been a deputy governor, the chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment Promotion Council and now the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

“He has promised to make the local government the focals of constitutional democracy, it requires courage, understanding and appreciation of the requirement of the law and of course it requires a man who has the capacity to differentiate between politics and governance,” Eyiboh said.

Eyiboh, who is also the Chairman of the Cross River Basin Development Authorities, said the argument by the PDP and other people doubting the possibility of triggering development in the local government is a mirage.

He further argued that if the 3 percent of the internally generated Revenue is remitted to the local government councils as stated in the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria there would be healthy operations in the councils.

2019 election: Pharaoh let my people go – Agbaje blasts Tinubu

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has described a National Leader of the All Progressives Cobgress, APC, Bolaji Ahmed Tinubu as “Pharoah.”

Agbaje was responding to Tinubu, who during the week, mocked him for adopting the ‘freedom’ slogan for his 2019 aspiration.

DAILY POST recalls that while addressing members of the APC on Monday, said, “Those who said they want freedom should go and learn tailoring and vulcanising and we will do freedom for them later.”

But in a statement on Tuesday, the PDP flag bearer likened Tinubu to the biblical Pharaoh of Egypt who refused to allow the children of Israel to leave.

His statement said, “Pharaoh, you must let our people go!

“Apparently, the APC leader has lost touch with reality.”

Agbaje’s statement was signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina.

“Otherwise, he would know that, like the children of Israel, Lagosians are groaning under the taskmaster that Tinubu and his cronies have turned themselves into in this state that should rate as Nigeria’s foremost,” he added.

Agbaje said Lagosians would be liberated after the people might have delivered an electoral disgrace to the APC in 2019.

He said, “We identify with our vulcanisers, tailors and all craftsmen who have the joy of duly-earned freedom after their apprenticeship.

“But it is apparent that, unlike them, those who have gotten used to filthy lucre and the dividends of corruption cannot savour the joy that comes with the legitimate sweat and labour of hardworking artisans.”
