Egbetokun: We Will Align with Nigerian Government on State Police

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has affirmed that the Nigeria Police will align with the Federal Government on the issue of state police.

This revelation was made by Deputy Inspector General, South West Geopolitical Zone, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi during an official visit to the Osun State Police Command on Thursday.

Representing the IGP, Alabi said, “It is for the Federal Government to decide on state police and it is for us to key into it.”

Alabi said he was in the state on the directives of the IGP to interact, appraise and address challenges of the rank and file in the command.

The DIG noted that such interaction and feedback by officers and men in the field is necessary in order to assess the crime fighting capabilities of the men.

The major reason of coming is to interact, appraise, address challenges by the police management. This is the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to all Deputy Inspector General of Geopolitical Zones and also to access the crime fighting capability.

The Police boss who urged the officers to avoid extortion added that it payed them better to be persons of integrity than for people to see them as corrupt officers.

“Cultivate friendship and by this you’re earning the trust and confidence of members of the public

“We most protect the human rights of persons. You can only be friendly if you abide by the rule of law.

“Go for your main target and stop harassing the relatives if your main target.”

Alabi observed that the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba have galvanised all stakeholders to work in harmony with the police force especially with traditional rulers, students, traders, community leader, opinion leaders.

“They are important in crime fighting and will gauge information that can make police proactive.

CP Umar Abba had earlier in his welcome address demanded for better housing, modern armoury and the better welfare package for the rank and file of the Command.
