The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede, has criticized a suit filed by about 16 governors seeking to declare the agency illegal.
He made the remarks during a visit by the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes.
Olukoyede on Monday described the move as unnecessary and urged the National Assembly to support the EFCC in changing the negative perception of Nigerians about the agency.
The EFCC boss also appealed to the National Assembly to increase allocations to the agency in the 2025 budget.
The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for October 22 to consider the governors’ suit ¹. The EFCC remains committed to its mission, undeterred by the legal challenge.
Senator Emmanuel Udende, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, led an oversight visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
Udende acknowledged the achievements of the EFCC, emphasizing the importance of continued support for the agency’s efforts.
