Edo: Okpebholo to compensate those who Obaseki demolished their properties

The Edo State Government has promised to compensate individuals or corporate organisations whose lands and properties were illegally destroyed by the immediate past government of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the state.

News reports stated that the Edo State Government also promised to return all landed property illegally collected from their owners by the past administration.

Dr Samson Osagie, the Edo State Commissioner for Justice and the Attorney-General, disclosed this on Monday during a thank-you party organised for the people of Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.

Osagie said the party was to appreciate the people of the locality for their support for the governor during the September 21, 2024, governorship election in the state.

According to him, the Edo State government is fully aware that the immediate past government illegally acquired some community lands and properties without compensation.

“I want to assure those whose lands or properties were illegally taken or destroyed that the present government led by Senator Monday Okpebholo would compensate them.

Governor Okpebholo is already righting the wrongs of the past government in order to instill harmony in the state.

“There are so many landed properties of Edo citizens who have worked hard and invested in the state that were forcefully acquired without compensation.

“This administration is going to make sure that the owners of those properties are compensated, while those that need to be released will be released to the owners. No victim will be left unattended.

Every Edo person will get justice in the state, but that is not to say that if there are things the government will want to take responsibility for, the government will not do it,” he said.

Osagie also added that all lawsuits that are capable of derailing the government would be thoroughly handled by the Ministry of Justice in order to prevent any unforeseen distractions.

“My ministry will provide the legal advice to the governor to ensure governance has a human face where there will be no oppression and victimisation in the state,” he added.
