Trump refused to join the Obamas, the Clintons in reciting the Apostle Creed at Bush funeral on Wednesday

Twitterati are questioning why President Donald Trump did not join other attendees at former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral on Wednesday as they read the Apostles’ Creed.

The cameras showed Trump standing solemnly beside the Clintons and Obamas as the former presidents recited the Christian creed from their programme.

Trump’s behaviour triggered many reactions on Twitter, as reported by TheHill.com:

Curious moment here as all of the former Presidents and First Ladies read and recite the Apostles’ Creed – President Trump & the current First Lady do not. #GeorgeHWBushFuneral pic.twitter.com/fTqNkS4fDe

Trump did not engage in some of the singing during the service, some detractors pointed out. Former President George W. Bush also did not participate in all of the songs.

“Striking that all the former Presidents and First Ladies recited the Apostles Creed, but Trump and Melania stood silently and did not,” one Twitter user wrote. “The creeds are at the heart of historic orthodox Christianity.”

Trump is a professed Presbyterian and performs well among evangelical voters, which some users noted.

It’s SO weird that Barack Obama (the “Muslim”) knew all the words to the Apostles’ Creed, and Donald Trump (the Evangelical hero) didn’t know any of them, and didn’t even bother to read them. #GeorgeHWBushFuneral

“There are people who will find an excuse for why Trump could not simply look at the program and read the Apostles’ Creed who would have called Obama the anti-Christ if he had stood there silently like this,” another user wrote on Twitter.

The Apostle Creed(Ecumenical Version):
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting

Conflict forces over 430,000 people to flee their homes in Cameroon

Conflict in Anglophone regions of the republic of Cameroon has forced 430,000 to flee their homes with many people currently hiding in the bush with no support, says the Norwegian Refugee Council.

Tiril Skarstein, Team Leader, Media and Public Advocacy, Norwegian Refugee Council, stated this on Wednesday, in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Maiduguri.

“We are deeply worried by the ongoing conflict and the increasing displacement figures. Parties to the conflict must ensure that civilians in the area are protected and are able to safely access life-saving assistance,” said David Manan, Country Director for the Norwegian Refugee Council in Cameroon.

The number of people displaced from their homes in Cameroon’s Anglophone Southwest and Northwest regions and in neighbouring Littoral and West regions has reached 437,000, according to the latest UN estimates.

NRC is assisting people displaced by this crisis but many people are left without any support, as insecurity is hindering organisations from accessing many areas. People are without proper shelter and sanitation facilities, clean water, food and access to medical care.

“The needs we are witnessing in the Southwest and Northwest regions are alarming and there are too few agencies on the ground to provide the necessary aid due to limited funding. We call for more donors to prioritise this crisis to allow more agencies to respond so that we can stem the rising tide of suffering and displacement,” said Manan.

“Displaced families who receive our assistance have told us that they share it or give it to their relatives who did not yet receive any assistance and desperately need help. Many people are hiding in the bush with no support, fearing for their lives,” added Manan.

“This is the first time I am being helped since I fled,” said Annoh, who received essential household items, including materials to build a shelter. “I will share what I have received with my husband who is hiding in the bush. He has nothing but the clothes he was wearing when he fled,” she added.

NRC is distributing household items, shelter and hygiene kits in Northwest and Southwest regions with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA) and European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).

Presidency speaks on receiving petition from U.S

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa has denied receiving any petition on a Nigerian detained by the United States, U.S, authority.

Dabiri-Erewa gave the explanation through her Media Aide, Mr Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Dabiri-Erewa said the attention of the Office of the Presidential Aide had been drawn to an online publication about a Nigerian detained in the U. S.

She said the publication entitled “Family of US detained Nigerian man cries out, seeks FG’s intervention,” was false.

NAN recalls that an online medium had reported that Mr Olufolajimi Abegunde, a Nigerian resident in Atlanta, Georgia was detained by the U. S. authority since February.

He was accused of harbouring a friend who was allegedly involved in a questionable financial transaction.

The report added that the detained Nigerian had sought the federal government’s intervention.

Dabiri-Erewa, however, said that the report was false as no correspondence was received by her on the issue.

”We have checked our records and there is no such letter ever received in our office as the Commission has not even been set up as at the time the said petition was reportedly submitted.

”Secondly, all the line of communication is open for any public complaint which we respond to as soon as practicable.

”The complainant or any other aggrieved Nigerian is advised to officially channel the communication to the Secretary or Secretariat of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,” she said.

She said that the commission could not treat any issue based on an online report.

Dabiri-Erewa instructed that all petitions should be channelled through ssa@diaspora.gov.ng or submitted at the office or call +2348174383962.

2019: PENGASSAN re-echoes need for issue-based campaign

Mr Olabode Johnson, President, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has re-echoed the need for political parties to ensure issue-based campaign for the 2019 elections.

Johnson made the appeal at the 1st Triennial Delegate Conference of PENGASSAN and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Retail branch in Abuja, on Wednesday.

“Campaigns should be issued-based for the purpose of convincing the electorate of the capacity of the political party,’’ he said

He commended the effort of leaders of the National Peace Committee for the signing of peace agreement among the presidential candidates.

According to him, the unity and peace of the country should be paramount for everyone.

“As we approach the 2019, I commend the efforts and leadership of the former head of state, General Abdusalami Abubakar (Rtd) for the initiative.

“We call on the presidential candidates to adhere to the terms of the signed agreement, while other politicians should desist from overheating the polity,’’ he said

Johnson further urged politicians to also avoid any form of hate speech or actions capable of creating divisiveness.
