DSS fixed trial date to stop me from attending Aba protest – Sowore alleges

‎Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that his trial was deliberately fixed for the same day as a planned protest in Aba in order to prevent him from attending the rally.

‎Sowore made the claim in a post shared on his verified X handle on Friday, where he explained the circumstances surrounding his absence from the court hearing involving the Department of State Services (DSS).

‎According to him, when he and his legal team arrived at the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026, the judge handling the case was not present.

‎“When we arrived at the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026, the judge was absent and his registrar fixed March 24 as the next date,” he wrote.

‎He added that disagreements later arose among the parties involved in the case, which led his lawyers to formally request another hearing date.

‎“Because parties couldn’t agree, our lawyers wrote requesting a new date,” Sowore stated.

‎However, the activist claimed that the situation changed after the DSS allegedly learned that he planned to travel to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest.

‎“The moment the DSS heard we were heading to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, the hearing was suddenly fixed for the same day in order to frustrate me from attending the historic rally,” he said.

‎Sowore described the development as deliberate, saying the intention behind the new hearing date was clear.

‎“The games are obvious,” he wrote.

‎Despite the situation, the activist insisted that the struggle would continue.

‎“Nothing can defeat an idea whose time has come,” he added.
