Details of Meeting Between 36 State Governors, NSA Over Planned Nationwide Protest Emerge

The 36 state governors across the country recently held talks with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu over fears of nationwide protests against the government, scheduled to begin on August 1st.

The meeting came as worries grow over the potential for unrest across the country.

According to a statement released after the meeting, the governors met on Wednesday night to discuss a range of issues.

The statement said the National Security Adviser briefed the governors on intelligence reports indicating a rising tide of discontent and the possibility of large-scale protests.

The governors and the NSA agreed on the need to strengthen security measures across the country. The NSA promised to support the governors in improving security in their states.

“The NSA is committed to supporting the governors in improving security architecture at the subnational level. The governors thanked the NSA and reinstated their commitment to enhance the security of lives and properties at the subnational level,” the communique said.

In other matters, the governors were updated on a recent Supreme Court ruling on local government finances by the state attorneys general.

The Nigerian Bar Association also met with the governors to discuss its new leadership and its commitment to working with the states.

The governors also heard from the Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, about progress in improving healthcare services across the country.

They welcomed the new World Bank Country Director, Mr. Ndiame Diop, who outlined plans to support development in the states.
