Former Education Minister and founder of the FixPolitics Initiative, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticized President Bola Tinubu and other Nigerian politicians, accusing them of lacking empathy and accountability for the crises plaguing Nigeria.
Ezekwesili’s remarks come in response to tragic stampedes in Ibadan, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, which claimed over 60 lives, including children, during festive food distributions.
“Humility and empathy remain in short supply among our public officials, and that’s unfortunate,” Ms. Ezekwesili wrote on X.
While President Tinubu attributed the mishaps to “indiscipline” among beneficiaries and poor coordination by organizers, Ezekwesili criticized his response as detached from the harsh realities faced by Nigerians.
“These self-indulgent folks are cocooned away in luxury and blind to how desperate the times are,” Ezekwesili stated.
.
She further accused the Tinubu administration of profiting from Nigerians’ hardships and called for accountability to address the root causes of the country’s widespread poverty and despair.
