The ongoing one-week strike by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ebonyi State has been suspended.
The suspension of the strike was announced by the leadership of the union in the state.
Recall that the NLC had declared a warning strike starting from December 2, over non-implementation of the new minimum wage.
Following this declaration, the governor of Ebonyi State threatened to sack any worker who fails to report to duty.
The governor also said it would take him only 72 hours to replace those who he eventually sacks for joining the strike action.
Despite, the governors threat, the union continued with the warning strike.
However, in a new development, the strike was called off following a review meeting by the State Executive Committee.
The union noted that its executives have been having meetings with the state government.
The statement said, “The State Governor has appealed passionately for the table used in the payment of the October and November 2024 salaries to be accepted by the NLC pending a review that will be backed by a better financial standing of the State.
“The state governor has promised to continue his goodwill to better the affairs of Ebonyi workers,” the statement said.
The union further encouraged workers to resume duties in their various offices as its leaders continues engaging with the state government for a better welfare for all members.
