A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined a request by former Jigawa Governor, Sule Lamido, to halt the upcoming national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The ex-governor had rushed to court, asking the judge to block the event ahead of time, but the court refused.
Lamido had filed a motion asking for an interim order to stop the PDP’s national gathering until his main case is heard.
His lawyer had argued that the party should pause its plans until the court decides on the issues raised.
However, Justice Peter Lifu refused to issue the order. Instead, the judge directed the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to explain why the request should be granted in the first place.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2299/2025, lists the PDP and INEC as defendants. It challenges preparations for the party’s convention and questions internal party procedures.
The court’s ruling means the PDP convention plans remain unaffected for now, pending further hearings.
Both defendants are expected to appear before the court to present their arguments.
