Concerned Nigerians have condemned the “senseless” massacre of scores of people in the Kombun District in the Mangu area of Plateau State.
More than 100 persons, mostly women and children, were killed by invaders who burnt houses, foodstuffs, barns, seedlings, among others.
A statement by Theophilus Abuh Agada, on behalf of the social change movement, lamented thousands have been displaced from their homes.
Concerned Nigerians regretted how the recurring deadly clash between herders and farmers in Plateau claim lives of innocent people.
Agada said the atrocity “goes against the fundamental principles of humanity, peace, and justice that we hold deat and must be condemned by all and sundry”.
The loss of lives is an irreparable tragedy that affects not only the victims but also their families, friends, and the wider community, the activist noted.
Agada reminded warring parties that no grievance, no matter how valid, can justify resorting to violence and wanton destruction.
“It is through dialogue, understanding, and compassion that we can address differences, resolve conflicts, and build a harmonious society that values the sanctity of human life,” he said.
The statement urged the authorities to, as a matter of urgency, investigate this crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
During the week, Hon Solomon Bulus Maren appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to order the security agencies to protect his people.
The lawmaker representing Mangu-Bokkos Federal Constituency urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief items to the victims.
Maren said more than 200 persons had been murdered before the latest attack, adding that the government must double its efforts to stem the tide.
