CAF officially confirms 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will proceed in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda

‎The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will go ahead as planned in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

‎CAF President Patrice Motsepe dismissed initial reports suggesting the tournament could be postponed to 2028 over concerns about the readiness of the host nations.

‎“We have done a lot to ensure AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains to host it there,” Motsepe said after a CAF executive committee meeting.

‎“I believe we will hold a very successful AFCON among the three countries. CAF will work closely with the host nations to ensure every aspect of the tournament, from infrastructure to logistics, meets the highest standards,” he added.

‎While official dates have yet to be announced, CAF has earmarked June and July 2027 for the competition, positioning it just ahead of Kenya’s general elections scheduled for August.

‎The 2027 edition will mark the first time the Africa Cup of Nations is jointly hosted by three countries, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

‎East Africa last staged the tournament in 1976, when Ethiopia served as hosts.

‎CAF has stressed that stadium upgrades, training facilities and transport infrastructure across the three nations are being closely monitored to ensure they meet required international standards ahead of the competition.
