Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted the newly elected vice chairman, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State.
It was gathered that the two councillors, who represent Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards, were abducted along the Kamuya village–Buni Yadi road while travelling in a Hisbah vehicle. They were en route from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu.
Sources said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening as the elected officials were travelling toward Maiduguri.
One of the abducted councillors was said to be the immediate past vice chairman of the local government.
“Yes, our newly elected vice chairman from the last Saturday local government polls, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors representing Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State were abducted by suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists along the Kamuya village–Buni Yadi road.
They were abducted alongside some unidentified passengers travelling in a Hisbah vehicle from Potiskum in Yobe State to Biu,” a source, who pleaded anonymity, said.
“One of the councillors abducted was the immediate past vice chairman of Biu Local Government Area.
“We are appealing to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue them and other captives safely.”
Borno State held its local government election on Saturday, December 13, 2025 and the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged winner of the chairmanship and councillorship elections in all 27 local government areas of the state.
