Bloomberg, Economist, Other Foreign Media Project a Massive Defeat for Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari

The Bloomberg and many other foreign news agencies have projected a massive defeat for the ruling APC in the 2019 presidential election. This is likely, considering numerous pointers like widespread APC in-fightings, massive insecurity in the North West, North East and North Central, nationwide hunger and job losses, the negative body language of Nigerians towards the APC. The nationwide resoluteness of Nigerians to boot the Buhari administration out of power, is seen in governorship runs such as Osun State, where the PDP had more votes in an election that was later declared inconclusive. This begs the question of the neutrality of the INEC.

This is where the international community will surely intervene just as they did in the DR Congo. The international community is keenly interested in the Nigeria politics because any rigging by the APC will strike off an already volatile country of 200m people which will lead to an immigration crisis around the world. Also, considering that they sent a note of warning to the APC concerning its brutish behavior in Osun, countries such as the US and the UK are concerned about the turn-out of the February election. The intervention of the international community in Congo is a major pointer at how the international community will intervene in the Nigeria elections. In the DR Congo, the opposition candidate won the just concluded presidential election and this will likely happen in Nigeria, considering the issues on ground. The INEC chairman would never want to come into conflict with countries like UN and the UK. This is a major reason why he will conduct a free and fair election.

Furthermore, in a lot of the states in the country, APC members are angry at the posture of the president in allowing the party to burn, while he supports both in-fighting sides. Ogun, Rivers, Zamfara and Imo APC all have blown out irreconcilable crises. This discounts other APC states whose in-fighting is not yet blown out. Just last week, a member of a faction in APC Rivers killed another member of the APC because of dispute concerning posting of APC posters. In Zamfara, the governor has banned the APC chairman from visiting the state. In Ogun state, the governor has sworn to ensure that the APC governorship candidate loses out. In Imo, the governor has also promised victory for another party in the state. The result is that APC people in those states have become angry with President Buhari for not solving the imbroglio in the state.

For the opposition, they have never been this united. In fact, while about four APC governors are promising defeats for APC governorship candidates in their state, all PDP governors are uniting to support their candidates. Also, concerning insecurity, director general of the PDP campaign stated that when the PDP handed power to the APC, the North West and North Central did not have security crisis. Today, those regions are hotspots for killings and banditry. This is exemplified by the utter shunning of the APC flag off campaign in the North Central state of Plateau, and the North Western state of Kaduna (Birnin Gwari). This is just the beginning as more definitive activities are bound to happen before the election, which in due course will cement projections like Bloomberg’s that the Buhari administration will face a massive defeat at the polls.

2019: I’m impressed with INEC’s readiness – Buhari tells EU election obsevers

Published

on

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Abuja told the European Union Observer Mission (EOM) to Nigeria’s elections starting in February, that he was impressed by the preparations made by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and was optimistic that the electoral body would deliver on its mandate of a credible poll.

Receiving the EOM, led by the Chief Observer and member of the European Parliament, Maria Arena, at the State House, the President said he had listened earlier in the day, to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, when he briefed the National Council of State.

According to President Buhari, “I am happy and impressed with the briefing he gave. I hope that the confidence he exuded and the intellect he brought to bear on the Report will be justified at the end of the day.”

The President told the EU delegation that Nigeria had grown its electoral system incrementally, getting better year after year.

“Having participated in elections four times in the past, I would say that since 2015, technology has helped the credibility of our elections,” he said.

President Buhari said that Nigeria with over 250 cultural groups across religions and ethnic groups, with each group canvassing for identity and primacy in the affairs of the nation, “patriotism demands that we identify the nation’s best interest and go with it.”

He stressed that the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, administration had the good sense of identifying the national interest to include security, peace and stability, improved economy, jobs creation and the campaign against corruption, noting that the party was not wrong in 2015, and is not wrong going into the election this year with the same issues in its campaigns.

The President thanked the delegation for taking interest in Nigeria’s elections, and in the affairs of the nation generally.

The EOM team, accompanied by Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, Head, European Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, said that the EU had observed every election in Nigeria since 1999, and had come here again for the next one, following an invitation by INEC.

The delegation promised impartiality and neutrality in the monitoring of the elections.

PDP reject APC’s mulling of interim government

…Insists Atiku Will Win Presidential Poll

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejects in its entirety the idea of an Interim Government, being mooted by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on behalf of the Buhari Presidency.

The PDP says it cannot accept any form of unconstitutional governance and a contraption like an interim government because it is confident of a landslide victory on February 16, given the overwhelming support, which it’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, enjoys among Nigerians across the board.

The party said a suggestion of an Interim Government, under any pretext, context or contemplation can only come from desperate and unpatriotic minds in a failed administration or political party that has lost hope of being re-elected in a free, fair and credible election due to its manifest incompetence and humongous corruption.

Every Nigerian knows the desperation of the APC and the Buhari Presidency ahead of the 2019 general election, leading to their resort to threats, intimidation and clamp down on dissenting voices, as well as, assault on institutions of democracy, in the face of incontrovertible indices pointing to their imminent crushing defeat at the polls.

The PDP has already alerted Nigerians that Alhaji Lai Mohammed had let out APC’s ignoble “plan B” of “if we can’t have it, then destroy it”, which is to cause violence, derail the electoral process and blame it on the opposition; not minding the damage such could cause the nation, including human and material losses.

We hope such cruel plot, as revealed by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, is not the underlining reason behind the APC administration’s alleged neglect and undermining of our security forces fighting in the fronts.

The PDP demands that Alhaji Lai Mohammed comes clear on the source of his information, if it is not a plot being hatched by the APC.

He should tell Nigerians if his source was the Police, the military or the Directorate of State Services (DSS) so that they can appropriately channel their concerns.

The PDP therefore urges Nigerians to be at alert and keep an eye on the APC in their nefarious plans against our nation, now that they have made their strategy public.

On our own part, the PDP is prepared and ready for the elections. We have been going round the country peacefully, campaigning and presenting our candidate, policies and programmes to the electorate.

The PDP will therefore not accept any form of interim government, not when Nigerians have already attained a consensus to rally behind and vote in the peoples Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as their next President, come February 16, 2019.
