Bagos Hints Imminent Exit from PDP, Says Party No Longer Capable of Protecting Plateau’s Political Interests

Former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has declared that leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is now an inevitable step as the party sinks deeper into unresolved leadership crises and organizational instability.

In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Bagos said the PDP has deteriorated beyond internal repair, warning that its current state poses a direct threat to the political future of Plateau State and its people.

According to him, the party’s failure to maintain a unified national structure has made it incapable of supporting credible candidates or defending electoral mandates. He questioned the legitimacy of the party’s national leadership, noting the ongoing confusion between the Turaki-led and Abdularam-led factions.

“A political party that cannot resolve its own leadership cannot defend the mandate of its candidates, nor can it offer stability to its members across the country,” Bagos stated.

He reminded Plateau citizens of the painful fallout after the 2023 elections, when several elected officials, including himself, were removed by the courts over what was described as lack of party structure at the national level.

“Our people suffered for it. Our political stability suffered. And our collective mandate was exposed due to internal disunity at the national level,” he said.

Bagos insisted that Plateau cannot afford a repeat of that experience as the 2027 elections approach, stressing that the state needs a political platform built on unity, discipline, and national alignment—not one entangled in leadership battles.

“Plateau deserves a political platform that is coherent, disciplined, and capable of delivering victory—not a platform trapped in endless internal battles,” he added.

While he did not explicitly announce his next political move, Bagos made it clear that a new direction is already taking shape.

“It is time to embrace strategy over sentiment. We must align with a political structure that is stable, visionary, and nationally present—one that can give Plateau the voice, protection, and opportunity it deserves in the coming political season.”

He said any future decision will be guided by the need to secure Plateau’s interests and protect the collective mandate of its people.

“For Plateau, for our people, and for the future, a new political direction is not just necessary—it is inevitable,” Bagos concluded.

Rt. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos represented Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2019 to November 2023.
