APC’s suit stalls PDP’s inspection of electoral materials

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State have disagreed over the modalities for the inspection of electoral materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the September 28 governorship election.

This is just as the commencement of the inspection of the materials by the PDP was stalled on Thursday, following a suit filed by the APC challenging the scanning of ballot papers by the opposition party.

The election petitions tribunal, led by Justice A. T. Badamasi, had granted a motion ex parte to the two parties to enable them inspect the materials used for the poll.
‎It was, however, learnt that no sooner had the exercise begun at the INEC state headquarters in Benin than it was stalled by the legal action taken by the APC.
Paragraph 753 of the suit filed by the APC reads in part: “Your petitioners will before or at the trial of this petition apply and pray this Honourable Tribunal for an order or direction that the ballot papers used and votes cast in each or some of the polling units for the governorship election be produced in court by the 1st Respondent (INEC) and recounted in open court and the figures obtained and admitted in evidence.”
Counsel to the PDP, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, had told journalists that though the suit filed by the APC had not been heard by the court, it would not alter the process which both parties had earlier agreed upon.
But state Chairman of the APC, Anselm Ojezua, explained that though the ruling party did not oppose the inspection of the materials at the tribunal, the scanning of the ballot papers was not part of the motion filed by the PDP‎ at the tribunal.
Ojezua, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said, “‎They (PDP) have been inspecting. But when they say that they want to go and scan ballot papers and there was nothing in their petition to suggest, of course, we will object.
“When you want to inspect, it is one thing. When you say you want to scan, your intention must be to further your case. But I do not see how that will help their case because they have been talking about over-voting.”
He also said that the motion filed by the PDP stated that the inspection should be done at the tribunal.
He added, “What they said they wanted in their petition was that the ballot papers should be brought to the tribunal. So, there is nothing to be done at INEC; we do not want them to tamper with those materials.”

Why Ekiti must vote Buhari in 2019 – Fayemi’s deputy, Egbeyemi

Bisi Egbeyemi

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, has canvassed support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in the February 16 presidential election.

Egbeyemi said Ekiti has a brighter future under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, which is executing key capital projects in the state for the benefit of the people.

The deputy governor, who spoke at a public forum in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, said the APC-led Federal Government was carrying out a rail line project that will connect Ekiti with Osun State.

A statement on Wednesday signed by his Special Assistant (Media), Odunayo Ogunmola, quoted Egbeyemi as assuring the people of more capital projects and empowerment programmes that will change their lives if Buhari is re-elected in the 2019 presidential poll.

He disclosed that Governor Kayode Fayemi was instrumental to the conclusion of Ekiti in the rail project noting that when completed, the project will boost the local economy and attract more investment.

The deputy governor also urged the people of the state to vote for all APC candidates in the 2019 general elections to help the party implement its manifesto for the benefit of the masses.

Egbeyemi said: “All I want you to do for us is to pray for this government and to support us. This is the first time Ekiti will be in connection with the federal government.

“By February, there is going to be an election and we want every Ekiti man and woman to support us by voting for Buhari.

“Once that is done, you have a man up there and he is one of the best. I don’t need to tell you that Kayode Fayemi is one of the closest governors to President Buhari.

“I want to tell you before March or April, you will know what will be coming to this state by the grace of God.

“The rail line that is coming from Osogbo, it was through the efforts of Kayode Fayemi that Buhari included Ekiti in the project.

“Ekiti was not in the project but Buhari said Ekiti must be included asking why Ekiti was not having rail line.

“There are more goodies that will come from the Federal Government but we must vote APC and ensure that Buhari returns for second term.”

BY SARAUNIYA G USMAN, ABUJA

The National Coordinator, TIV National Volunteers for Buhari 2019, Arc Ukura Patrick Tachia has said that his group is out to debunk the deceitful narrative against President Muhammadu Buhari by non-performing politicians in Benue state.

He stated this during a courtesy visit by the TIV Volunteers for Buhari 2019 to the Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu in his office in Abuja.

The coordinator pointed out that his group shares the same passion for anti-corruption and ready to put a lie to the deceitful narrative concocted and peddled by non-performing politicians that President Buhari is an enemy of the Tiv nation.

Arc. Tacia said despite the deliberate falsehood and hate messages against the President by opposition politicians and enemies of the state, the TIV NATIONAL VOLUNTEERS for Buhari would ensure that the President records a landslide victory in 2019 Presidential Election in Benue state and the nation in general.

“Our members and officers have been working round the clock engaging individuals, communities one on one and through the media as well as other means of communications” Arc. Tachia said.

He added that their unflinching support for President Buhari was due to his enviable record of achievement in all sector of the economy including Ministry of Communications and its agencies that have attracted $40 billion worth of foreign direct investment in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu commended the group for their courage to support President Buhari despite all the political noise to discredit laudable achievement of the present administration.

APC’s negative change made me dump party for PDP – Ondo federal lawmaker

Published

on

The member representing Owo/Ose federal constituency of Ondo State at the House of Representatives, Bode Ayorinde has disclosed that his reason for dumping the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was due to the deviation of the APC-led federal government from it campaign promises.

Ayorinde, who stated this in Owo, in the northern senatorial district area of the state, alleged that APC brought “negative change” to the Nigerians, hence his decision to quit the party.

Recall that the lawmaker was among the House of Representatives members that defected to the opposition party in July this year.

Ayorinde, who spoke during the flag off of his re-election campaign, stated that, “When I was in APC, I was one of those people complaining about PDP. But PDP committed a mistake by wanting to retain power in the south after eight years of Obasanjo, two years of Ya’Adua north, six years of Jonathan south and the north have more population. So it was not even about performance it is about fairness, justice equity that we all felt that government will go back to the north.

“However we made a mistake of bringing a lifeless President who he has very good intentions but he doesn’t has the capacity to carry out his intentions.

“Some people just hijacked the government, so he could not secure Nigeria, he could not provide the jobs.

“When I left APC, I left because the change that was promised was not a positive change, it was a negative change, hike in prices, unemployment, insecurity among others and I felt that someone could do it better which is Atiku. I’m not happy with Buhari, let us try another person.”

Reacting on the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari in not assenting to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, he stated that the president’s move would not affect the chances of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in emerging victorious at the 2019 polls.

“The electoral, orderliness, fairness is in the hand of Nigerians, not in the hands of any law. However good or bad the law is, it is the human being that is matter, it is the same electoral act that ushered in President Buhari and we will still use it to bring in Atiku whether it was sign or not what am interested in is about Nigerians.

“We are just waiting for Atiku to be sworn in, those who voted PDP out, the N-PDP who broke out of the PDP and went to APC have left the APC, they are the winners, they have backed in PDP including many of us who are never in PDP before. The game is over for APC, the elections will come and nothing will happen, there won’t be any killing, everybody will come out en masse to vote for Atiku, their votes will be counts and Atiku will be declared winner.”

The lawmaker also stated that he is optimistic of winning his constituency seat at the polls.
