APC female presidential aspirant Uju Ohanenye has received endorsement from student union bodies across Nigeria and West Africa, today Thursday in Abuja.
The bodies consist of: the West African Students Union (with delegates from Togo, Ghana, Cameroon and Nigeria); Oodua Youth Parliament; Association of Nigeria Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) and Association of North Central Students.
The Deputy Senate President of the Association of North Central Students, Orbee Abraham stated that men have ruled since 19960 with no result, hence the need to give a woman the chance.
“We came here today. We don’t have much to say because action speaks louder than words.
“We are tired of the ASUU strike. We are tired of bandits, and unemployment. We have tested our fathers since 1960 till date with no positive response, so this time around, we want our mother who can take care of us,” he said.
The female Presidential aspirant, Uju Ohanenye, thanked the various student bodies for believing in her, pledging not to fail their trust. She told newsmen that Nigeria needs a motherly touch, as well as a leader who will attract foreign investments to rejuvenate the economy.
Ohanenye said Nigeria’s problems are grassroots, adding that when she emerges, the ASUU strike, insecurity and other issues bedevilling Nigeria would be solved using the grass-roots approach. She, therefore, urged Nigerians to vote their conscience and shun money politics.
She said, “As I said, Nigeria is supposed to be like a parent to all of us. If I come on board as the president of the Federal Public of Nigeria, I will see myself first as a servant of everybody. That will start by having equality amongst them.
“When I have this equality, and I have the attention towards me knowing that I appreciate them and I’m going to involve them in my governance. We all come together to achieve the basic amenities, which are lights, agriculture, roads, hospitals, and the basic things that cause them to get involved in illegalities, that are ending their lives so quickly.
“Politicians give you money today and within one week the money is gone. That’s what I keep preaching to people to understand that you don’t think just of today, you have to consider tomorrow. You have to consider your children, their future, and the future of the country.
“If for any reason you want to collect anything or you want to do anything, which I advise you not to, put your conscience, your country, your children, the future into consideration.”
Also speaking, the focal person of the West African Students Union, Chidubem Nwaibe said the Union sent its delegates from Nigeria and across West Africa to endorse the aspirant in the belief that her aspiration will come to fruition.
He, therefore, assured that the Union will mobilise to ensure victory is achieved. “We all are here in the belief that this aspiration will come to fruition and we all accept the responsibility that we are going to mobilise to support to the end and make sure that victory is assured.
