APC Campaign Council hits PDP: Stop grandstanding on Osun election

The APC Campaign Council for the 2018 Osun Governorship Election has described as excessive grandstanding the call by the PDP for INEC to declare its candidate in the polls as the winner.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, the Chairman of the Council’s Media Committee, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, decried the PDP’s descent into hysteria after INEC announced that the election was inconclusive.

Mohammed said PDP’s position reinforced the Council’s earlier statement that the opposition party was in the panic mode prior to the election, and that it had no confidence in the institutions saddled with
organising the polls.

He said rather than resort to threats, the PDP could either go to court or decide not to participate in the supplementary election of Sept. 27th.

“What the PDP cannot and must not do, the Council said, is to engage in its trade-mark brigandage or to employ tactics that can short-circuit the democratic process.

”In its time, there would have been no room for a supplementary election in Osun because the PDP would have used state institutions to hijack the election proper, as it did in Ekiti in 2014. But in its deafening hysteria, the PDP pretends not to understand the real meaning of the outcome of the Osun election: That the ruling APC did nothing to prevent the state institutions that organised the election
from carrying out their duties, in the spirit of true democracy.

”Local and foreign observers have hailed INEC and the security agencies for a well-organised election. We join them in this commendation. Our confidence in the ability of the relevant state institutions involved in the Osun election remains unshaken. So also is our belief that every disagreement resulting from the election must be resolved through the democratic process, rather than a resort to threats of fire and brimstone,” the Council said.

The APC Campaign Council described as selective amnesia the jaundiced analysis by compromised, pay-as-you-go analysts, party hacks and renowned professional riggers masquerading as democrats who pretend not to remember that the APC was leading the PDP massively (by over 40,000 votes) in the 2015 Kogi governorship election when INEC declared the election inconclusive.

”Rather then resort to threats, like the PDP is doing now, the APC simply submitted to the democratic process and the supplementary election was peacefully conducted in 91 polling units across 18 of the
21 local governments in the state. Where were these emergency, ready-for-hire analysts then?” the Council queried.

It commended the good people of Osun State for deepening the nation’s democracy by eschewing violence and exercising their franchise in orderly manner all through the election process last Saturday, and urged voters in the areas to be covered by the supplementary election to also ensure a peaceful process on Thursday.

2019: Don’t be deceived, APC has failed – ADC candidate, Olatubosun tells Oyo voters

Published

on

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, Dr. Wasiu Adewale Olatubosun, on Monday, declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed the people of the state.

Olatubosun, while addressing journalists, warned people of the state against being deceived by the ruling APC to renew their mandate to its candidates in the 2019 general elections.

The former Chairman, Caretaker Committee in Ibadan North West Local Government Area, said that the APC has failed by making education from primary to tertiary, a money-making venture, thereby subjecting poverty-ridden public to untold hardship by commercializing all sectors and levels of education.

He said that the party by making education a money-making venture has contradicted free education programme which formed the fulcrum of APC campaign programmes.

Olatubosun added that with the non-payment of 12-26 months salaries of workers in tertiary institutions in the state, increment of LAUTECH school fees to N250,000 and introduction of education levies in secondary schools in the state, the APC has failed and should be voted out in the 2019 general elections.

He said, “Beware of APC failed continuity agenda, don’t be deceived by the ruling All Progressives Congress APC to renew their mandate to its all candidates in the coming electioneering.”

Olatubosun advised the people against falling for an attempt to hoodwink the people to fall prey to APC’s deceit as epitomised by Gov Abiola Ajimobi-led administration which failed to fulfil all electoral promises made to the people prior to the 2015 election.

According to him, what excuse would APC give for making education from primary to tertiary a money-making venture for its cronies and friends?

He said, “How best could one describe the high level of insensitivity of Ajimobi-led government for introducing education fees for pupils and students in primary and secondary schools in the state. Fees in the primary schools had hitherto been cancelled during the colonial era while that of the secondary schools students have been enjoying free tuition fees since the beginning of this Fourth Republic. The reintroduction of fees at both levels negates the ideas of progressivism as propagated and pioneered by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Also, APC led government is the most insensitive and education-unfriendly government in the anal of history of Oyo state.

“The state never had it so bad that all workers of state-owned higher institutions are being owned between 12 to 26 months salaries. While the students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECh) who were used to pay less than eighty thousand naira (N80,000) are now being compelled to pay as much as N250,000 putting it at per with private institutions thereby making it difficult for students from poor homes to have access to public tertiary education.”

Olatubosun chided the Governor Abiola Ajimobi government for allegedly impoverishing the poor by subjecting the poor people to unwarranted security levies apart from high levies collected from banks and all companies in the state.

“In its bid to continue subjecting the people of the state to untold hardships, arrangements have been concluded to increase and introduce more levies if people allow APC to continue in 2019,” he said.

The former Vice President further remarked during the question and answer session at the event that if elected as president he would give top priority to education investment, saying that “President Buhari has confessed that the economy is in bad shape under his watch and it is clear that the President is short of ideas about how to fix the broken economy. There is no single economist in his administration and that is why we are in this mess.
