Tamim Iqbal became the 1st Bangladeshi batsman to reach the milestone of 8000 runs in ODIs. Besides, as an opener, he took the ninth place in this list in the world.

He reached this milestone in the 24th over of Bangladesh’s first ODI against Zimbabwe by cutting Sikandar Raja’s ball to short third man.

Tamim is the fifth Asian opening batsman to reach the milestone of 8,000 runs in the fifty-over format. Before him are India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and Pakistan’s Saeed Anwar.

Tamim’s team has led Bangladesh to victory in six out of seven ODI series since becoming the captain of the team in January 2021.

This cricketer scored 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 ODI runs for the country since the start of his career in 2007. It took Tamim 23 innings to score the last 1000 runs.

In the first ODI against Zimbabwe, Tamim got Bangladesh off to a great start by scoring 119 runs for the opening wicket with Liton Das. He later lost his wicket to Raja for 62 runs.
