Kano Crisis: Gov Yusuf and Kwankwaso Accused of Playing Politics – Islamic Scholar

An Islamic scholar in Kano State, Mallam Isa Ibrahim has claimed that the duo of Governor Abba Yusuf and former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso are not interested in the governance of the state but politics.

The cleric alleged that Governor Yusuf was a “mere errand boy” for Kwankwaso who is bent on asserting vengeance on perceived political enemies at the expense of peace and development in Kano State.

In a statement made on Tuesday, Ibrahim was said to told his congregation in Tudun Wada, Kano, that the dangerous politics that Governor Yusuf and his godfather Kwankwaso were playing had brought untold hardship to the state.

“Recently, Kano people were made to watch from the sidelines as other state were celebrating the achievements of their governors in the last one year.

“It’s unfortunate that the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf and the power behind the throne, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have chosen playing crass politics over provision of good governance.

“Despite the huge monthly allocation the current administration receives from the federal government, there is nothing on ground to show for it.

“Even the N5 billion palliative released to each state by the federal government to cushion the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy is not felt by Kano people.

“Even after one year in office, Governor Yusuf is still blaming the past administration for his failures, whereas, he is the one who has failed to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

“The poor standard of education, health care services, and infrastructural decay in Kano are pointers to that.

Truth must be told, Governor Yusuf and his godfather Kwankwaso are not interested in the governance of Kano State but politics.

“Right from the inception of his administration, the governor has always demonstrated that,” he claimed.

He further alleged that, “immediately after assuming office, without looking at government records, he went ahead with the demolition of shops, businesses and people’s homes simply because most of the properties were developed during the administration of his predecessor, Ganduje.

“After failing in his bid to push the blame for his poor performance to his predecessor with baseless corruption allegations, Governor Yusuf has now resolved to stirring Emirship crisis in the state to distract citizens from his monumental failures as Governor.

“One of the popular sayings of Kano people right now is that Governor Yusuf is an errand boy to Kwankwaso.

“The Governor himself has proved that by appointing godfather’s children into his administration and taking directives from the former Governor.

“Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso have made life a living hell for Kano people. Should Kano people be made to suffer because Kwankwaso lost the 2023 presidential election to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu?

“Is Kwankwaso’s political ambition worth the sufferings of millions of Kano citizens? Is governance all about political vendetta or provision of basic social amenities?

“Kano people have suffered enough in the hands of Governor Yusuf and his godfather Kwankwaso.

“Even their party, the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has passed a vote of no confidence on Governor Yusuf.

“Governor Yusuf should retrace his steps and do the needful.

“Governance should be the number one priority or agenda on his table as far as Kano state is concerned. He should also remember that no government lasts forever.”
