Allow her finish her good works, group asks Tinubu to extend AGF’s tenure

A coalition of over 40 civil society organisations has appealed with President Bola Tinubu to extend the tenure of the Accountant General of the Federation, Madein Oluwatoyin.

Led by the Global Gender Safety and Moral Development, and the Competent Governance For Accountability And Civic Trust (CGACT), the coalition said the AGF should be allowed to complete the good work which she already started in the country.

Speaking at a press conference, Godwin Oghenero Erheriene, the Chief Executive Officer of CGACT, said Oluwatoyin has the required capacity to stop payments of projects yet to be awarded by the Nigerian government.

He said such capacity can save the country a lot of money and prevent Nigeria from huge embarrassment of incurring unnecessary interest on funds that are yet to be deployed.

“Madein’s impeccable character and strong personality coupled with a firm knowledge of her profession were brought to bear on her schedule of duty as she consistently kept Nigerians properly informed about government revenue transactions, and performance relative to revenue inflows at all levels,” the group said.

“This office is always reserved for someone with accounting prowess. Dr Madein is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK; a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

The group also commended President Tinubu for Oluwatoyin’s reinstatement through the office of the Head of Service of the Federation as the substantial AGF would be retiring March 2025.
