A new horizon has opened for safe vegetable production and marketing in the char areas of Faridpur. Under the initiative of the local NGO Amra Kaj Kory (AKK), grant cheques have been distributed among small-scale farmers as part of a value chain sub-project titled “Ecological Farming and Safe Vegetable Production and Marketing in Char Areas.
The primary objective of this project is to improve the socio-economic conditions of marginal farmers in the region through eco-friendly farming methods, while ensuring the supply of safe produce to the market at an affordable price.
The cheque distribution event was held on Sunday afternoon at the hall room of AKK’s head office in Tepakhola, Faridpur. A total of five lakh taka in grant cheques was handed over to five selected farmers, with each receiving one lakh taka. The cheques were presented by AKK Executive Director M. A. Jalil and Deputy Director B. M. Alauddin.
Also present at the event were Shimul Kumar Chakraborty, Director of Credit Program; Md. Habibur Rahman Habib, HR Officer; Moniruzzaman Masud, Audit Coordinator; Mahbub Hasan Tutul, Assistant Audit Officer; M. A. Kuddus Mia, Project Coordinator; and Md. Al Amin Hossain, Assistant Value Chain Facilitator, along with other staff members of AKK.
Project Coordinator M. A. Kuddus Mia stated that the project has already piloted solar-powered irrigation systems, net houses, and seedling production using coco dust, demonstrating innovative and sustainable agricultural practices in the char region.
Deputy Director B. M. Alauddin emphasized, “We are not just handing over cheques we are providing continued support in capacity building, market linkage, and technical assistance throughout the production process.
Executive Director M. A. Jalil expressed his optimism, saying, “The successful implementation of this project will establish an environmentally sustainable production system in the char region, significantly reducing production costs for the farmers.
It is worth mentioning that the project is being implemented by Amra Kaj Kori (AKK) with technical assistance from the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), and financial support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Embassy of Denmark.
