The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has advised Nigerians to report any strange movement around all power infrastructure across the country to security agencies.
Adelabu noted that this is necessary to reduce the increasing rate of vandalisation and destruction of critical power infrastructure in some parts of the country.
Adelabu gave the advice on Monday during the inspection of a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) sub-station in Ayede, Ibadan.
Recall that vandals in December, brought down towers T372 and T373 on the Gombe-Damaturu 330kV Synchronous Condenser transmission line. https://dailypost.ng/2023/12/22/blackout-hits-north-east-as-vandals-destroy-transmission-line-photos/
The Minister while addressing staff and management of the sub-station, decried the rate of vandalisation and destruction of critical power infrastructure in some parts of the country.
He, however, advised Nigerians to report any strange movement around any critical power infrastructure across the country.
Adelabu explained that some people have decided to destroy critical power infrastructure but pledged that the current administration was working with the security agencies to ensure they are well protected.
The minister further urged Nigerians to escalate any strange movement around the existing infrastructure to the security agencies.
He added that the protection of these infrastructures is a collective effort of the citizens.
“Some people are working to destroy our national assets, it is our responsibility to protect them collectively.
“When you notice any strange movement around our national assets, let us escalate it.
“Any strange movement should be reported to the security agencies. We can do it individually. We have the support of Mr. President, the National Security Adviser and all security agencies.
“We have seen the destruction of transmission wires in some parts of the country. These are the assets that cost billions of naira to install. It is a fight that must be jointly fought”.
