APC blasts PDP for politicizing stampedes, defends Tinubu administration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what it described as an insensitive attempt to politicize the recent tragic stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which resulted in the deaths of several Nigerians.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC expressed grief over the tragedies and extended condolences to the victims and their families.

However, the party criticized the PDP for using the incidents as an opportunity to attack the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It is grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable for the PDP to exploit these tragic incidents in a senseless attack against an administration that is focused on fixing the ruins of nearly two decades of PDP maladministration,” the APC stated.

The statement also drew comparisons between the recent stampedes and the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment tragedy in Abuja under the PDP-led government, which claimed several lives.

The APC accused the opposition party of hypocrisy, pointing to its “sordid record of maladministration and utter incompetence.”

In a detailed rebuttal, the APC defended President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigerians’ welfare, citing key achievements of his administration including investment in alternative energy sources and vehicle conversion to compressed natural gas, introduction of the Credit Corps scheme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, upward reviews of workers’ salaries and corps members’ allowances, among others.

“These initiatives reflect the most people-centric administration in our history,” the APC asserted.

The APC dismissed the PDP’s claims that the current administration has weakened a “once-thriving economy.”

Instead, it accused successive PDP administrations of running a “phantom economy” riddled with corruption and inefficiency.

“President Bola Tinubu has embarked on the boldest and most courageous economic reform programme in decades, dismantling obstacles to true prosperity and sustainability,” the statement read.

“The economy is rebounding steadily as reforms continue to yield wholesome dividends,” the party added.
