The Leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Saturday, December 14, suspended its two-weeks-long strike action across the country.
The union, in a statement issued and signed by President, Shammah Kpanja, also urged all its members to resume work on Monday, December 16, 2024.
According to Kpania, ASUP have been able to reach a new agreement with the Federal Government following a new Memorandum of Understanding shared between both parties.
Kpania also stated that the agreement with the FG was reached during a conciliation meeting with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on December 9.
He said the two weeks strike started on December 2, over government’s inability to meet the demands of the union.
According to him, ASUP’s National Executive Council team will meet after the meeting with FG to review the current situation. He also stated that an MoU was signed by both parties with a caveat for the scheduling of another meeting on January 23, 2025.
The January meeting, the ASUP president said will create a platform for the assessment of the level of compliance by parties and opportunity to address other issues raise by the union.
He said, “In view of this development, all members of the Union are directed to resume duties from Monday 16th December, 2024.”
