The Kano State Fire Service has said a 67-year-old man, identified as Muhammad Uba has died in a fire outbreak that engulfed his home in Kano state.
The spokesperson for the Kani command, Saminu Abdullahi said Uba died alongside his wife, Fatima who was 52 years old at their residence in Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU area of Ungogo local government area of the state.
It was gathered that the couple were rescued unconscious but later died after they had been severely burnt and engulfed by smoke from the inferno on Friday, December 13.
Giving details into the unfortunate incident, Abdullahi said the service received an emergency call about a fire incident at about 1.45 am.
He said following the call to the control room, firefighters were deployed to the scene of the fire at about 1.51 am.
The team were said to have met an already-controlled fire upon arrival at the location.
He said, “Two rooms were engulfed by fire and were completely well alight.
“Meanwhile, a 67-year-old man named Muhammad Uba and his wife, Fatima Muhammad of about 52 years old, were trapped by the smoke,” Abdullahi said.
He noted that their bodies have since been handed over to the village head while investigation is ongoing to determine the cause to the fire outbreak.
