Kano Free Trade Zone, Stakeholders meet on moving Zone Forward

The Kano State Free Trade Zone converged with stakeholders and other relevant stakeholders to discuss ideas to move the Zone forward.

The State’s 2024 Free Trade Zone Investors and stakeholders forum with the theme: Understanding the Concept and Operation if Special Economic Zones Schemes took place in Kano on Wednesday.

According to the Director of the Zone, Mal. Musa Muazu Sahabi the main essence of the gathering is to consolidate on successes recorded so far just as NEPZA records a N1.85 Billion revenue generated for 2024.

“Actually the essence of this gathering is to brainstorm and move the Zone forward. To discuss on ideas, identify where we have issues and proffer workable solutions.

We want our partners to really understand the Scheme, some of them feel this is a terminal where they can just bring in anything anytime we want them to know it is not a terminal but industrial area.

We want them to come and invest and not just trading. We have observed that in Kano, there is much emphasis on trading but the essence of the scheme aim to provide employment for our youths. So we need them to come and establish manufacturing enterprises in the zone.

For the first time in the history of the Zone, we have generated N1.85 billion from the zone under NEPZA.

This is a remarkable feat and we intend to achieve more”, Sahabi stated.

Some stakeholders who spoke during the occasion hailed the Management of the Free trade Zone in the state for it’s commitment towards seamless operations.

They expressed optimism that more will be accomplished in the coming years considering capable hands running the Zone under whom their industries have witnessed significant and consistent growth.

Paper presentations made during the one day event include; General Principles and Investment Procedure in Special Economic Zone, Tax Incentives and Ease of Doing Business in Kano State:

Others are Procedure of Operations in Special Economic Zone and The role Nigeria Customs Service in trade facilitation: A case study of Kano Free Trade Zone.
