Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has suspended two key officials following allegations of material diversion.
The affected officials are Moses Ekuma, the Commissioner for Health, and Francis Ori, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development.
The action follows a Saturday night incident in which Governor Nwifuru, during a visit to the Ministry of Health premises, discovered six officials allegedly caught diverting government materials.
The governor immediately ordered their arrest and pledged to ensure full prosecution of those involved.
The suspensions were ratified during the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday in Abakaliki, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, confirmed the development in an official statement.
“Following cases of gross misconduct and dereliction of duties by some government officials and matters related thereto, the Chairman of Council directed the indefinite suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and three months suspension of the Honourable Commissioner for Health respectively,” the statement read.
The state government assured Ebonyi citizens of its continued focus on good governance and the prudent management of public resources.
