Renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana accused Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), of running business centres instead of churches.
Falana made these remarks during an interview with Sahara TV, where he expressed concerns over the growing commercialization of religion in Nigeria.
Falana’s comments were triggered by Pastor Adeboye’s recent statement about his intention to open more churches across the country.
According to Adeboye, the goal is to ensure that people can find a church within walking distance of their homes.
Adeboye has been at the centre of controversy recently. He attributed Nigeria’s current exchange rate stability to divine intervention, warning that without it, the naira could have plunged to ₦10,000 per $1.
He made the disclosure at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja.
Pastor Adeboye noted that, through his prayers and those of his followers, the naira’s free fall had been averted.
