The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to announce its verdict on the abandoned Libya-Nigeria Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match, which was scheduled for October 15.
The decision, expected on Thursday or Friday, follows a Zoom meeting between CAF and representatives from both Libya and Nigeria, where they discussed the diversion of the Nigerian teamโs plane from Benina Airport to Labraq Airport.
It can be recalled that there was controversy following the treatment of the Nigerian national team, Super Eagles, at a Libyan airport, where they were stranded for several hours in โdisturbing conditionsโ.
In reaction, CAF condemned the โdisturbing and unacceptable experiencesโ of the team and suspended the match.
It is understood that the Libyan Football Federation presented technical reasons for the planeโs diversion, citing air navigation issues. The federation involved its Secretary General Nasser Al-Suwaie, Assistant Secretary-General Mohamed Qrimida, and a Tunisian lawyer in its defence.
However, the Nigerian Federation countered with the planeโs Tunisian captain as a witness who provided firsthand details of the incident.
