Libyan FA threatens legal action after Super Eagles pulled out of AFCON qualifier

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has expressed its disappointment over Nigeria’s withdrawal from the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, scheduled for October 15.

The Nigerian Super Eagles cited safety concerns after experiencing a 13-hour delay at Al Abaq Airport due to an unexpected flight diversion on Sunday.

In a statement, the LFF accused the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) of failing to cooperate in organizing the match.

The federation condemned Nigeria’s decision and announced its intent to take legal action to protect the interests of the Libyan national team.

“The Libyan Football Federation condemns the measures taken by the Nigerian Football Federation by refusing to play the Libya-Nigeria match in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers… it will take all legal measures to preserve the interests of the Libyan national football team,” the statement read.

The LFF further noted that the NFF had noted that the NFF had not provided the necessary cooperation for both the first and second-leg matches.

Additionally, the LFF issued an apology to Libyan football fans for the confusion and delays surrounding the match arrangements, attributing the issues to the actions of the NFF.

“The Libyan Football Federation apologises to Libyan football fans everywhere… due to the state of confusion caused by the Nigerian Football Federation,” the statement concluded.
