The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Accord Party have formed an alliance and have adopted Dr. Bright Enabulele as their joint candidate for the Edo governorship election on September 21, 2024.
The merger was announced at a joint press conference, where leaders of both parties expressed their commitment to democratic values and governance reform.
Dr. Enabulele welcomed SDP members, emphasizing their shared vision for a better Edo State.
โWeโre thrilled to integrate SDP members into the Accord fold,โ Dr. Enabulele said. โTheir decision to join us reflects a collective desire for democratic governance and a departure from autocratic practices. Together, weโre dedicated to delivering fresh and inclusive leadership that every Edo indigene deserves.โ
Meanwhile, Yakubu Asimu, SDPโs Deputy Chairman in Edo State, explained the reasons behind the merger. โWeโre weary of the entrenched autocracy and lack of progress in Edo State,โ he said. โJoining forces with Accord demonstrates our commitment to change and transparent, accountable government.โ
Dr. Enabulele faces challenges from major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and the Peopleโs Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
