Namibia polls: AWC backs SWAPO presidential candidate

The Africa Women Conference, AWC, has thrown its support for the presidential candidate of the South West Africa Peoples Organisation, SWAPO, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, in Namibia’s November presidential election.

Nandi-Ndaitwah is the current vice-president of Namibia.

The AWC in a press statement by its co-convener, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, in Abuja said, “As women from diverse backgrounds across the continent, we recognize the significance of her candidacy not only for Namibia but also for the broader struggle for gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa.”

According to the statement, “Nandi-Ndaitwah’s lifelong commitment to public service and her distinguished track record in leadership roles are testaments to her dedication to the people of Namibia.

“Throughout her career, she has championed critical issues affecting women, children, and marginalized communities—paving the way for transformative policies that foster social justice, economic development, and sustainable peace.

“Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s campaign symbolizes hope for aspiring women leaders everywhere, encouraging them to break barriers and strive for positions of influence.”

The AWC urged all stakeholders—governments, civil society, and citizens—to rally behind Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah, ensuring her message of inclusivity, empowerment, and national unity resonates across the nation.

“We urge the electorate to support a candidate who embodies the values of integrity, resilience, and a progressive vision for a better Namibia.

“In this pivotal moment, we must amplify the voices of women in politics. The journey toward gender parity in leadership roles requires collective action, and Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s candidacy is a step toward achieving that goal. We are proud to stand alongside her as she seeks to become a beacon of inspiration for future generations,” the statement stated.

The Africa Women Conference is a vital platform that brings together experts, institutions, corporate organizations, and individuals dedicated to empowering African women and shaping the continent’s future.
