Following the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State over the imposition of candidates in the forthcoming Local Government election in the state, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has cautioned aspirants in the oncoming council polls not to fight over positions.
Oborevweri made the call on Sunday at the PDP Delta South Leaders and Stakeholders meeting held at the residence of a former Governor of the state, Emmanuel Uduaghan.
Oborevweri said, โDelta South PDP is united and I want to thank all of you because coming together like this makes the party stronger.
โI did not lose in any Local Government in Delta South. Whether it was a small margin or not, I won, but in my Senatorial District, I lost in some local governments. So, I am very thankful to Delta South.
โThe State Chairman is moving from Delta Central to Delta South and as for the local government council elections, let me urge all aspirants to be patient and not to fight for any position because only one person can occupy a position at a time.โ
The Governor added, โLook at me I had 38 cases and I won all by the grace of God and that was possible because God wanted it to be so.
โAgain, I appeal to you, donโt fight for any position when the time comes God will do it for you. With all the battles, we won in 21 local governments out of 25 and with a margin of over 120,000 votes.
โIโve come here to assure you that Iโll not disappoint you people and we will continue to do the right thing. You know, when you do the right thing, some people may be angry but a lot of people will be happy.โ
The Governor thanked the partyโs faithful and urged them to continue to respect the leaders of the party.
โI thank all of you for the love you have shown me today. My appeal is for you to continue to pray for me to remain focused and to do the right thing always.
โThe will of God will continue to prevail because if it is not your turn today, itโll be yours tomorrow. Continue to show your leaders respect because that is what they want from all of us. God will continue to unite us and we will continue to achieve for Deltans through our MORE agenda.
โWe have completed so many projects to be inaugurated during our first anniversary in office while many others are still ongoing. After the anniversary, weโll still inaugurate more projects,โ he noted.
In his remarks, Uduaghan, who was the Chief host, commended the Governor for his accomplishments in just one year in office.
โRt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has done a lot for this state. I appreciate all the things you have done because I was there for eight years and not everybody will understand what you are doing.
โYou have constructed roads, completed some that you met and so many things you started, and we are happy with you, especially for those of us in Delta South,โ Uduaghan stated.
Also, the immediate Past Deputy Governor of the state, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro thanked Oborevwori for his leadership accomplishments and the continuation of the legacies of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration.
On the partyโs congresses and LG council elections, Otuaro urged members to accept decisions taken in the interest of the overall development of the party and the state.
Meanwhile, youths from Aniocha South, North, Warri South West, and Burutu, among other LGs, had protested what they described as the imposition of candidates by the partyโs leadership.
