Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has slammed the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for breaking the Ramadan fast with the Muslim faithful in Nasarawa State, describing it as a political script.
A video surfaced on social media where Obi sat in a mosque to have Iftar (the meal eaten by Muslims to break their fast after sunset every day during Ramadan) on Monday in Nasarawa State as part of his activities during a visit to the state.
Describing the action, the former Anambra governor wrote on his X account in a series of tweets that it was an opportunity for him “to perform a scared duty in line with the Ramadan season.”
Reacting to the gesture on X, Ahmad said Obi was engaging in acting scripts, questioning why he was not seen to be joining Muslims to break Ramadan fast when he was governor for eight years in Anambra.
Ahmad said the former governor travelled to Lafia, the Nasarawa capital, to break fast when he could have done it in his home state, criticising him for having started playing politics because of the 2027 general elections
Meanwhile, Obi’s action has continued to generate mixed reactions among Nigerians, as some people commended him for displaying love and tolerance, while others labelled the action as an eye service for political gains.
