The Fire Ravages 10 Shops in Wuse Market, Confirms FEMA Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)has stated not less than 10 Shops were razed during a fire incident at the Wuse Market in Abuja.

The fire was brought under control by a combined team of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, and the Julius Berger Fire Department to ensure the fire does not spread.

FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

According to a statement by the Head Public Affairs of FEMA, Nkechi Isa: “The FCT Emergency Management Agency FEMA received a distress call on the112 emergency toll-free number at 4.05 pm about a fire incident at Wuse Market.

The Agency as the lead coordinating body for all emergencies in the FCT, thereafter activated its stakeholders including the FCT Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) FCT Police Command, and the Julius Berger Fire Service to the scene of the incident.

“No life was lost in the fire incident. Meanwhile, the Ag Director General of FEMA, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo has again appealed to FCT residents to equip their homes and business places with basic firefighting equipment like extinguishers and fire blankets.

“He noted that the 10 Shops affected by the fire incident did not have an extinguisher.Sabo also noted that access to the place was unhampered allowing the fire trucks to effectively fight the fire. Going forward, the Ag DG appealed to the market management to put a fire tinder in place.

“Sabo also urged FCT residents to avoid storing petroleum products and other combustible items in their homes. He called on residents to always use the 112-emergency toll-free number in the event of an emergency.”
