Yusuf Malanta, the Assistant Comptroller General (ACG)’ of Training and Coordination of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has described the appointment of Bashir Wale Adeniyi as the service’s Comptroller General (C-G) by President Bola Tinubu, as a round peg in a round hole.
Malanta made the remarks on Wednesday, during a chat with newsmen at the ongoing Comptroller General of Customs (CGC’s) Conference, holding in Lagos.
The Customs training boss therefore, said Nigerians should expect efficient trade facilitation in NCS operations.
”With the experience garnered over the years as an astute Customs officer and a gentleman, Adeniyi is bringing his wealth of experience to enhance the good works of the President and his cabinet,” he said.
Malanta said the appointment of Adeniyi had once again shown President Tinubu as a leader who meant well for the country.
While wishing the C-G success in his new role, Malanta said he was confident that the new Customs boss would not disappoint Nigerians.
The ACG, who expressed gratitude to Tinubu over the appointment, called on stakeholders to compliment the president’s efforts by complying with the rules and regulations guiding NCS’ operations .
He said they should ensure standardisation of import goods within the context of trade regulations, and always declare the actual quantity and rate of duty.
He thanked Adeniyi for reviving the CGC’S annual conference after eleven years suspension.
He noted that the conference was a significant part of NCS’ operations, as it often enabled the service to review its operations and fashioned out ways of improving performance.
According to him, the event also establishes synergy with other stakeholders in the economic and financial sectors, as well as the maritime industry.
He further explained that the conference also provided an avenue to deliberate with key stakeholders on new innovations and ideas for improved service delivery.
