The Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria (GPFN), Rev John Joseph Hayab has called on Nigerians to collaborate with security agencies towards curtailing the rate of killings in parts of the country.
He noted that meaningful development cannot take place in an atmosphere of chaos.
“The rate of killings and destruction of property in the country is alarming, it calls for serious deliberation for the way forward,” he said.
Speaking on Tuesday during a one-day dialogue for “strengthening synergy between religious leaders and security operatives in Kaduna State”, organised by Kukah Centre in collaboration of Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, he said the aim of the programme is to gather stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting security situation with a view of ensuring restoration of peace in the State.
He said, “Innocent people have been killed and property destroyed and we felt there is the need for us to engage religious leaders and security agencies towards finding a workable way of restoring peace for even development to take place in the State.”
He said practical steps should be taken by all stakeholders for better understanding of one another for the restoration of peace.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the State, Suleiman Shuaibu, said the Governor was taking serious steps towards ensuring the existence and maintenance of peace.
He assured the organisers that the doors of the State government were open to dialogue towards ensuring peaceful coexistence.
The Programme Manager, Mr Methodius Karfe, stated that the Kukah Centre would continue to collaborate with stakeholders towards ensuring the sustenance of peace in Kaduna State and the country as a whole.
