The leadership of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, National Assembly chapter has debunked reports in some news outlets that a whopping sum of N500 million was misappropriated by the union leaders.
Chairman of the Union, Comrade Sunday Sabiyi in a statement on Friday, which was sent to newsmen in Abuja, described the report as “ridiculous, unfounded, false, baseless and remains the figment of the imagination of the masterminds’, behind it.
He explained that nine members of the union were suspended for selling the union’s landed property without the consent of the house, saying that it was nothing close to embezzlement of N500 million as purported.
The statement said: “The attention of the Chairman, Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN NASS CHAPTER), Comrade Sunday Sabiyi, has been drawn to reports by a section of the media alleging that the union leaders misappropriated the sum of N500million.
“It must be stated that nine aggrieved members of the union were suspended by the Union in a general congress upon allegation of sale of the Union’s land during the tenure of the previous Executive.”
He revealed that investigation had been carried through a Committee and the perpetrators were found wanting, adding that the petition written to the Police by the nine members alleging fraud was an attempt to divert attention.
“However, in the interest of peace and harmonious working relationship in the National Assembly, the union has resolved to use its internal mechanism within the trade union precinct to look into the allegations as the National body remains the only authorized apex body of the union that can audit the books of any of it’s chapters.”
Consequently, the Chairman Comrade Sabiyi hereby calls on all members of the union to remain calm and law abiding.”
