Nigeria’s former Minister of Information and Culture, Major General Ibrahim Haruna (rtd), has revealed the only help Nigeria needs from the United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) amid the terror threat in the nation’s capital of Abuja.
Recall that there has been substantial tension in Abuja and its environs since the US and the UK warned of a possible terrorist attack in the nation’s capital.
The alert claimed that the terrorists were targeting government facilities, places of worship and schools, among others.
Many government and private establishments shut down operations over the fear of potential attack by the daredevil terrorist that has, over the years, kept Nigeria hostage.
However, while fielding questions on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday morning, Haruna asked the UK and the US to instead help Nigeria to tackle floods in the country, rather than propagate panic.
Recall that flood has affected infrastructure and equipment in the past few days in Nigeria while thousands of jobs have been threatened as companies affected struggle to recuperate from the impact.
“I have lived in Abuja since Abuja started and I cannot see any justification for a red alert where a foreign country is asking their citizens to leave the country [Nigeria] as if we are at war,” Haruna said.
“I think their interest is to get us in a state of panic and confusion so that we would live the rest of the time creating IDPs. We are already disturbed by floods and natural hazards. They should be thinking of how to help us meet this natural hazard, the climate change that is bringing about it.”
