Ex-Chelsea midfielder questions Klopp over decision during Liverpool’s 3-2 loss to Arsenal

Former Chelsea midfielder, Craig Burley, has questioned Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s substitutions during his side’s Premier League 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

Klopp watched as Arsenal defeated his team at Emirates Stadium following a goal from Gabriel Martinelli and a brace from Bukayo Saka.

Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino did score for Liverpool.

However, many expected Klopp to bring in new fresh legs upfront and go for the winner in the latter stages of the game when the scoreline was at 2-2, but the German tactician decided to introduce midfielder Fabinho and defender Ibrahima Konate instead.

His decision allowed Arsenal to gain the upper hand offensively, which led to Saka bagging the decisive goal of the match in the 76th minute.

Speaking after the game, Burley criticised Klopp over that critical decision that didn’t help the Reds.

“What was telling for me amongst all the other things that happened in the game was that at 2-2, Klopp put on a centre half for a centre half and a holding midfielder,” Burley told ESPN.

“I just thought it was telling for me when at 2-2, a centre half and a holding midfielder are coming on. Which kind of tells you which way the game was swinging, But I thought Arsenal were good for the 3 points and there is no doubt about it.”
