Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has dismissed claims of a rift between him and his predecessor, former governor Udom Emmanuel, saying he will continue to respect and work with him despite political differences.
Governor Eno said some people were attempting to create division between him and Emmanuel through falsehoods and unsubstantiated claims ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He spoke on Monday, September 21, 2026, while commissioning 14.8 kilometres of internal roads and spurs with 1.9 kilometres of discharge drains in Awa, Onna Local Government Area.
Governor Eno described the project as particularly significant because it was located in his predecessor’s home community, saying he personally chose to commission it as a mark of honour and respect for his “political father.”
Eno said his administration would continue to build on projects initiated by previous governments, noting that the Awa road project was started under the Emmanuel administration before being completed by his government.
He also stated that 26 projects were at various stages of completion in Onna Local Government Area and assured residents that his administration would continue to deliver projects in the area.
The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, said the 14.8-kilometre project comprised 16 road sections designed to improve connectivity within communities and link residents to farm settlements.
He said the project also included 1.9 kilometres of discharge drains and other engineering components, describing its completion as evidence of the administration’s commitment to completing inherited projects.
The Chairman of Onna Local Government Area, Hon. Kufre Umoren, commended Governor Eno for the road project and other interventions in the area, including healthcare, education and compassionate projects.
Umoren also called for continued support for the Governor ahead of the 2027 elections.
In separate goodwill messages, political and community leaders, including Hon. Pat Ifon, Hon. Sunday Johnny, Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Emem Bob, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Owoidighe Ekpoatai, and the Paramount Ruler of Onna, HRM Edidem Raymond Inyang, commended the State Government’s development efforts in the area.
