‎Activist politician, Aisha Yesufu, has questioned the circumstances surrounding the deaths of about 40 suspected illegal miners in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Niger State.

‎Yesufu raised the concern in a post on her official social media page while reacting to the incident.

‎She questioned how people arrested for mining died while in government custody.

‎“How did you arrest young people mining and almost 40 die in your custody? How?!” Yesufu wrote.

‎Yesufu also said accounts from survivors had raised questions about whether the deaths were accidental.

‎She added, “From what survivors are recounting, it is not looking accidental!”

‎The activist criticised the government’s handling of citizens in custody, stating: “Nigeria is the one that radicalizes its citizens against itself!”
