Nigeria’s E-hailing Space Heats Up as Homegrown ProTaxi Set for October 1 Launch

Nigeria’s competitive e-hailing market is set for a shake-up with the entry of ProTaxi, a new indigenous ride-hailing platform set to launch nationwide on October 1, 2026.

The platform, developed by PromiseLand Innovations Limited, is positioning itself as an affordable, technology-driven, and environmentally responsible alternative to existing operators.

According to the company CEO, ProTaxi was built to connect passengers with verified drivers while tackling three major pain points in urban mobility: high fares, safety concerns, and environmental impact.

“We believe getting around should be easy, affordable, and environmentally responsible,” PromiseLand said in a statement ahead of the launch.

The app allows riders to book trips instantly, choose from multiple payment options, access trip receipts, and track drivers in real time.

A key differentiator for ProTaxi is its push for electric vehicles, EVs. The company says the EV-first strategy will help drivers cut fuel and maintenance costs, and those savings will be passed on to passengers through lower fares.

With rising fuel prices and vehicle operating costs across Nigeria, PromiseLand says the EV model could make ride-hailing more sustainable for both drivers and commuters. The company also plans to partner with charging infrastructure providers to support the transition.

ProTaxi says it is prioritizing passenger safety with features including:

• Driver verification and background checks
• Real-time trip tracking
• In-app ratings and reviews
• Live location sharing so passengers can share their ride status with family and friends

For drivers, the platform promises flexible earning opportunities. Drivers can set their own hours and choose to work full-time or part-time. The company says it will also provide onboarding support and training as part of its driver engagement plan.

ProTaxi is the mobility arm of PromiseLand Innovations Limited, a Nigerian conglomerate already active in real estate. The company is currently driving an initiative to develop 100,000 housing units across Nigeria, starting with the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking on the launch, Amb. Lawrence Oloche, CEO of ProTaxi, said the expansion into transportation aligns with the company’s broader mission.

“Our broader objective is to improve mobility in Africa through technological advancement, affordable transportation, economic opportunities and environmental benefits,” Oloche stated. “From 1st October 2026, ProTaxi will be available to all Nigerians.”

The October 1 launch comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with increased transportation costs. Industry analysts say this creates an opening for local tech firms to introduce alternative models that are cost-efficient and locally adapted.

The ProTaxi rider app is already available for download on both iOS and Android ahead of the official rollout.

With this move, PromiseLand is extending its footprint from housing into mobility two sectors that directly impact daily living for millions of Nigerians.

Whether ProTaxi’s bet on EVs and affordability will be enough to compete with established global and local players remains to be seen. But for now, the countdown to October 1 has begun.
