The Osun State Police Command has explained that the senator representing Osun east, Francis Fadahuns, was released after being granted an administrative bail amid ongoing investigation into his alleged inflammatory comments.
Police spokesperson in the State, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the senator was granted administrative bail after responding to the command’s invitation.
“Yes, the senator has been granted administrative bail. But the case still continues,” Ojelabi said when contacted.
Fadahunsi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was invited by the police over a viral video in which he allegedly called on supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party in the state.

The senator arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Osogbo, the state capital, at about 2pm on Wednesday for questioning.
His invitation followed widespread outrage over the video, which was recorded during an APC campaign event in Ilesa on Tuesday.APC membership drive
In the footage shared on X, Fadahunsi, speaking in Yoruba, was heard making comments interpreted as a call for violence against members of the Accord Party.
The senator later sought to distance himself from the controversial statement, claiming that his words had been misinterpreted.
In a statement issued by his media office in Osun State on Tuesday and titled ‘Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC,’ the lawmaker explained that his comment was “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.”Geographic Reference
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement read
The aide further maintained that the remark was not intended to portray Fadahunsi as someone advocating violence against members of the Accord Party or any other political group.Geographic Reference
The senator consequently appealed to APC supporters and other political actors to maintain peace and obey the law before, during and after the election.
“At no point did Senator Fadahunsi advocate violence, intimidation or any form of physical attack against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political party. His consistent position has always been that elections should be decided by the votes of the people and not by force.
“The Senator, therefore, urges political actors, party supporters and the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election. He also calls on security agencies to remain professional and ensure that every eligible voter is able to exercise their constitutional right without fear or intimidation.”APC membership drive
The police had, however, demanded that he clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks, amid concerns that the statement could heighten political tension ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
A summon letter dated August 11, 2026, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, directed Fadahunsi to report to the SCID in Osogbo by 11am on Wednesday.
The police said the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating” during his address at the campaign programme.Geographic Reference
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter stated.
After spending time with investigators, Fadahunsi was seen leaving the police premises in his black Jeep, accompanied by some party supporters.
