NICDO Hosts Landmark ‘Community Prosperity Dialogue’ in Arochukwu, Empowers Women, Youth for Economic Growth

In a decisive move to unlock grassroots economic potential and foster sustainable development, the New Image Community Development Organization on Monday, June 22nd, 2026 successfully hosted its highly anticipated Community Prosperity Dialogue Series with women and youth in Arochukwu Local Government Area, drawing together traditional rulers, community leaders, government representatives, entrepreneurs, students, and market women in a single room focused on one goal: transforming local ideas into viable economic opportunities.

The atmosphere at the dialogue was one of urgency mixed with hope, as participants spoke candidly about the barriers that have long held back rural enterprises in Arochukwu—limited access to capital, gaps in digital skills, and the absence of structured networks that connect small producers to larger markets. Facilitators guided the conversations toward practical, locally driven solutions, insisting that sustainable growth must be built from within the community rather than imposed from outside. The Abia State Coordinator and her management team led intensive, interactive sessions that moved beyond rhetoric, helping women’s cooperatives and youth groups map out immediate next steps they could implement within their wards and villages.

The dialogue was championed by the organization’s Founder, Hon. Nkiruka Okorokwo, whose presence anchored the discussions in both policy insight and grassroots empathy. Alongside her, the Abia State Coordinator and her team emphasized that rural economic revival requires consistent follow-through, not one-off events. Their collective engagement underscored the organization’s long-term commitment to building systems that outlive individual projects, systems where women and young people are not treated as beneficiaries but as architects of the local economy.

A deeply emotional moment unfolded when participants paused to acknowledge and pray for the First Lady of Abia State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Priscilla Otti. The leadership and attendees commended Her Excellency’s tireless advocacy and visionary leadership, noting how her humanitarian interventions have consistently prioritized vulnerable women, girls, and youth across the state. The organization offered heartfelt prayers for God’s continuous guidance, divine wisdom, and abundant strength upon Mrs. Priscilla Otti as she drives programs that restore hope and dignity to families struggling with poverty and unemployment. The dialogue explicitly recognized that New Image Community Development Organization’s grassroots approach mirrors the First Lady’s motherly vision for inclusive development, a vision that sees the prosperity of Abia State as inseparable from the wellbeing of its most marginalized citizens.

Speaking on the outcome, Hon. Nkiruka Okorokwo stressed that national prosperity cannot be discussed in abstraction while rural communities remain economically stranded. She argued that true transformation begins at the grassroots, where women and youth form the backbone of the local economy, trading in markets, managing small farms, and driving informal enterprises that keep households afloat. By equipping them with business insights, cooperative structures, and access to emerging market opportunities, the initiative seeks to catalyze a ripple effect that will touch families across every community in Arochukwu LGA. She described the women and youth not as “the future” but as “the present engine” of economic growth, capable of building sustainable business models once they are connected to the right tools and micro-funding pathways.

The technical sessions focused on aligning skills with Arochukwu’s agricultural strengths, identifying specific vocational needs, digital literacy gaps, and modern agribusiness practices that could raise productivity without displacing traditional knowledge. There was also a strong push for collaborative frameworks—continuous feedback loops between women’s cooperatives, youth leaders, the state coordination team, and external development partners—to ensure that projects do not die after launch. Participants left with a shared understanding that longevity depends on communication, accountability, and local ownership.

Looking ahead, Hon. Okorokwo and the state team announced that Arochukwu represents only the first step. The Community Prosperity Dialogue Series is designed to scale across other Local Government Areas in Abia State, gradually building a network of empowered communities that exchange ideas, mentor one another, and attract investment collectively. The ultimate ambition is larger than economics: by bridging gaps between generations, genders, and communities, the organization aims to strengthen social cohesion and contribute meaningfully to the unity of the nation. The event closed with participants renewing their commitment to act immediately on the economic models discussed, a sign that the dialogue had moved from conversation to conviction.

The organisation’s statement explained that similar programme will be extended to other communities across the state and Nigeria at large.
