Civil society organisations (CSOs) across Nigeria have been better positioned to comply with the country’s new tax regime following the successful conclusion of a nationwide sensitisation campaign on the 2025 Tax Reform Act.
The campaign, themed “Understanding the 2025 Tax Laws in Nigeria for Civil Society Organisations,” was organised by Well Time Limited to strengthen the capacity of non-profit organisations on the implications of the new tax legislation and promote compliance with evolving fiscal policies.
The programme was held across five strategic locations—Owerri, Imo State; Asaba, Delta State; Lagos; Kaduna; and Bauchi—bringing together representatives of civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, community-based organisations, and development partners.
Facilitators at the sessions provided practical insights into the provisions of the new tax laws, highlighting key areas affecting the operations of civil society organisations, including tax obligations, exemptions, record-keeping, regulatory compliance, and engagement with relevant government agencies.
Participants were also taken through emerging tax policies designed to improve transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria’s tax administration, while clarifying misconceptions surrounding the implementation of the reforms within the non-profit sector.
Speaking at the conclusion of the campaign, representing WELL TIME, Augustine Aminu, in Bauchi said the initiative was conceived to ensure that CSOs are not left behind in the implementation of the 2025 Tax Reform Act, noting that many organisations require continuous education to understand their responsibilities under the new legal framework.
According to Aminu, the sensitisation campaign also served as a platform for participants to engage tax experts, ask questions on compliance challenges, and receive practical guidance on maintaining tax-compliant operations without compromising their developmental mandates.
Participants commended the organisers for delivering a timely and informative programme, describing the campaign as highly beneficial in simplifying complex tax provisions and enhancing their understanding of the reforms.
They expressed confidence that the knowledge acquired would improve organisational governance, strengthen financial accountability, and reduce the risk of non-compliance with statutory tax obligations.
The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting civil society organisations through continuous capacity-building programmes, technical support, and stakeholder engagement aimed at promoting effective implementation of the 2025 tax reforms across Nigeria.
