As discussions around the 2027 political landscape gradually gather momentum, few public servants exemplify these qualities more than Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, CON, whose enduring influence in Kebbi State and growing national stature have positioned him as a symbol of unity, development and a key driver of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Over the past three years, he has supported various skills-acquisition and empowerment programmes targeting youths, women and vulnerable groups across Kebbi State. Through these interventions, many beneficiaries have acquired practical skills, expanded their educational horizons and improved their economic prospects.

These achievements informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint him Minister of Budget and Economic Planning in 2023, a role that has further showcased his administrative competence and strategic vision.

Since assuming office, Bagudu has played a pivotal role in advancing the administration’s economic agenda. His ministry has coordinated national budget processes, strengthened policy implementation frameworks, enhanced monitoring systems and aligned development planning with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

One of his most visible contributions has been in fiscal coordination. In 2025, he supervised the framework for the ₦47.96 trillion Federal Budget, designed to support economic reforms, infrastructure development, food security and social protection. He has also been a leading advocate of Nigeria’s ambition to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030 through diversification, industrialisation and job creation.

His support for initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme reflects his belief that development must be felt at the grassroots, where government policies directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.

Beyond budgeting, his ministry has contributed to poverty reduction efforts, agricultural development strategies, social protection reforms and improvements in public-sector efficiency. The adoption of data-driven planning and technology-based monitoring systems has further strengthened policy implementation and accountability.
